We are looking for a seasoned Private Cloud Operations Engineer with deep expertise in VMware and the VMware Cloud Director (VCD) stack to help design, implement, and manage private cloud solutions for our managed services clients. This role requires a strong foundation in virtualization technologies, private cloud infrastructure, and managed service operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of technical competence, excellent communication skills, and a problem-solving mindset to drive innovation and ensure seamless service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure Design & Deployment
Architect and deploy private cloud solutions using VMware technologies, including vSphere, vSAN, NSX, NSX-T, and VMware Cloud Director.
Integrate VMware solutions within existing IT ecosystems to ensure scalability, performance, and reliability.
Operations & Service Management
Oversee daily operations of private cloud environments, maintaining high availability and peak performance.
Administer and support the VCD stack—handling upgrades, patches, and issue resolution.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of architectures, configurations, and operational procedures.
Implement and manage robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.
Set up proactive monitoring tools and processes to detect and address issues before they impact clients.
Ensure infrastructure compliance through timely patching and security updates.
Client Engagement & Delivery
Partner with clients to understand business needs and translate them into tailored cloud solutions.
Lead cloud migration initiatives and optimize workloads.
Act as an escalation point for critical incidents, ensuring quick resolution and clear communication.
Automation & Process Improvement
Create and maintain automation workflows and scripts using tools such as vRealize Orchestrator and PowerCLI.
Continuously seek opportunities to enhance processes, improve efficiency, and reduce operational costs.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Collaborate across teams including network, security, and storage to deliver cohesive cloud services.
Mentor junior engineers and provide training to client technical teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Technical Expertise:
In-depth experience with VMware vSphere, vSAN, and VMware Cloud Director (VCD).
Strong skills in VMware automation (e.g., Aria Suite, PowerCLI).
Solid grasp of networking concepts such as NSX/NSX-T, VLANs, routing, and firewalls.
Knowledge of SAN/NAS storage solutions.
Experience in hybrid and multi-cloud environments is an advantage.
Certifications:
Preferred: VCP-DCV, VCAP-DCV, or VMware Cloud Management certifications.
Soft Skills:
Excellent troubleshooting and analytical abilities.
Strong communication skills—both written and verbal.
Ability to multitask and perform under pressure in client-facing situations.
Experience:
9+ years in private cloud operations, focusing on VMware technologies.
Experience in managed services or consulting environments is preferred.
Previous work with banking or financial institutions is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with cloud-native platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Tanzu).
Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Ansible).
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines.
Understanding of ITIL practices and service management frameworks.
